  • Design and develop new and existing optical coating processes
  • Support existing business within the optical coating department
  • Troubleshoot and reverse engineer processes
  • Support technical root cause analysis and present findings to management
  • Prepare quotations for existing and new business opportunities
  • Technical sign-off of production orders
  • Identify new emerging technologies in the optical coating industry
  • Undertake R&D functions to support business growth
  • Attend conferences and exhibitions throughout the year relevant to optical coatings
  • Liaise with all departments to maintain good lines of communication
  • Other duties deemed relevant to the role


  • BSc Hons (minimum) in either Applied Physics, Sensors/Instrumentation, Electro-Optics/Photonics, Chemistry or related Engineering degree
  • Knowledge of coating technology (PVD/CVD), techniques, processes and machinery
  • Experience in design of optical thin film coatings and production processes
  • Understanding of measurements systems (optical test equipment) and programming languages (i.e. Visual Basic, C/C++, Python, Matlab)
  • Awareness of quality systems (ISO 9001)
  • A proactive mindset and a flexible approach to work
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of our team
  • Awareness of 5S and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Wants to contribute to and benefit from a safe working environment
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel)
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Excellent communication skills
